This comic book includes two top to tail stories with barely any text. Both tell the story of two men’s journey through the city, one during the day, the other during the night. “Good morning” and ”Good evening” are virtually the only words spoken by these two characters.
If gray dominates the page, color sometimes appears depending on where and with whom one of the character is. The colors evoke happiness, joy and change in the routine.
With this album, the illustrator wanted to highlight the little moments of everyday life in an architectural setting inspired by the city of Rotterdam where she lived during one year.
The very graphic line, the geometric shapes, the interplay between shadows and volumes make this album a beautiful object that denounces subtly our modern societies where we no longer take the time to talk to each other, where we cross paths without really knowing each other, and where solitude is part of everyday life.
This work was presented during a satellite exhibition of the Fumetto Festival in Lucerne and the originals were exhibited at the Atelier cafégalerie in Lausanne.
