Violette Vaïsse grew up in Casablanca, Morocco. She is an independent illustrator and comic book author based in Paris. Since graduating from the École supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc in Brussels, she has worked on projects for brands, created illustrations for the music industry, produced comics, and written books for young readers as well as personal works. She finds inspiration in the books of Tomi Ungerer, Claude Ponti, Marjane Satrapi, and Riad Sattouf, among others. Brioche & Tartine is her debut title published by La Joie de lire.
