Five times a century (since 1797), the Canton of Vaud celebrates its winegrowers in Vevey! A spectacular and unique celebration which gathers the whole region. As a matter of fact, over there, people tend to situate themselves in time in relation to the last and next celebration. There is a before and an after…
In the book especially written for the Fête des Vignerons 2019, Blaise Hofmann puts himself in Jeanne’s shoes, an eleven-year-old girl, working as an extra during the celebration. He tells us about the anxiety, the tiredness, the discouragement of the morning… and the enthusiasm of the evening! But also about the history of the winegrower’s brotherhood, the traditions, and the major challenge of an event recognized by UNESCO on its list of intangible cultural heritage. With simplicity, sensibility and humour, through the life of a young girl and her family, he pays tribute to a country, a history, a savoir-faire. Fanny Dreyer’s naive, delicate and colourful drawings echo the poetry of the text.
